North of Pokhara, Poon hill above Ghorepani offers a dramatic a dramatic panorama of some of the highest mountains in the world. The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing. It is less than 20 miles between the Pokhara airstrip (850m) and the summit of Machhapuchre (6997m) with no obstructing ranges to spoil the view.
The views throughout the whole region are fabulous. This trek offers impressive view of the Annapurna range including Dhaulagiri without gaining much altitude (Poon Hill is a mere 3210 m). If you have a short time to trek in Nepal and wish to gaze at 8000 m peaks then this may be the trek for you.
