After a one hour flight over Mt. Everest to Lhasa, we
drive to Shigatse, Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake
westward through the Tibetan plateau. Driving across the
Chang Tang Plain, we follow the trails of the ancient
salt caravan route. At the foot of Mt. Kailash, we will
perform the ancient rite of circumambulating known as “Parikrama”-
a full circuit of the peak. After visiting Mansarovar
Lake and traveling southward to Khasa, we return
to Kathmandu via the Zhangmu border.
An optional trip to the Silk Road takes 6 days or
more. Another three days optional trip to the ruins of
the Guge Kingdom from Darchen is offered if time
permits. It starts at Tsaparang, passes through
Shichenhe and Xingliang, and ends at the Pakistan border
on the Karakoram Highway. We then arrive in Kashgar just
in time for the well - known “Kashgar Sunday Market”.
