CHO OYU (8201 m) Expedition
|
Region: Tibet |
|
Cho Oyu was first climbed by S. Moechler, H. Tichy &
P. Dawa Lama in 1954. It stands high above the
Tibetan plains on the Nepal/Tibet border and is ideal
choice for mountaineers ready to test themselves on the
eight thousand peaks. It is the world's sixth highest
mountain and revered by locals as a holy mountain.
It is widely regarded as the least difficult of the
fourteen 8000 m peaks following the tradtional route
from the Tibetan side. On a good day the view from
the summit plateau is breathtaking, in a sweep you take
in the entire panorama of Everest, Lhoste, Ama Dablam
Nuptse, Chamlang, and other peaks of the Khumbu as well
in Tibet. We enter Tibet via Zhangmu and then
drive to Nyalam and Old Tingri, from where we will trek
to the Tibetan Base Camp and establish our camps for the
climb.
