Ladakh
situated in the Northwest of India occupying the eastern
part of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The
region lies at the western edge of the Tibetan plateau
bound by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges,
the Himalayas and Karakoram. Ladakh borders Tibet
to the East and Kashmir to the West. In the arid rain
shadow of the Himalays Ladakh is more similar both
geographically and culturally to its neighbor Tibet than
with the rest of India. Similarities which have
led to the region sometime being called "Little Tibet."
With altitudes range
from 2,750m at Kargil to 7672m at Saser Kangri in the
Karakoram it is among the highest
inhabited regions in the world. Trekking in this region
allows one to explore a both culturally and
geographically fascinating area.
