Mr. Lhakpa Gyalzen Sherpa and NMIA Jointly Receive “Kumar Khadga Bikram Bravery Award–2009″

Nepal Mountaineering Association honours Mr. Lhakpa Gyalzen Sherpa, the Managing Director of the Sherpa & Swiss Adventures Pvt. Ltd and N.M.I.A. with its most pretigioius award, “Kumar Khadga Bikram Bravery Award–2009” on the occasion of its 37th Anniversary yesterday. Mr. Sherpa was awarded for his outstanding skill and humanitarian support in managing mountain rescue operations in the Himalaya during the past 12 years. He had played key role in rescuing many mountain climbers, porters and Sherpas who misfortunately fell sick and into accident in the course of climbing the Himalayan peaks.
The award distribution program had begun from the welcome speech by the Mr. Diwas Bikram Shah, NMA’s general Secretary amidst the chief guests Mr, Shatrughan Prasad Singh, the Deputy Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mrs.Yankila Sherpa, former Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mr. JimbaJangbu Sherpa,NMA’s President, Mr. Ganehs Gurung, Cooridinator of Award Selection Committee, and other distinguished guests, NMA members, media reporters.
“In the 37 years of NMA’s foundation, the road was never smooth. Despite many ups and downs, we’ve accomplished many. We are proud to organize awards like this and present to the winners by recognizing their exceptional supprtand contribution in the mountaineering aspect of tourism in our country.” the General Secretary expressed his opinion on the historical background and its achievement. He also presented the targeted projects of the nma in the upcoming year 2011.
While speaking among the winners of the awards, Mr. Lhakpa Gyalzen Sherpa, recipient of “Kumar Khadga Bikram Bravery Award–2009“said, “I’m feeling fortunate and proud to receive this prestigious award from NMA. I’ve realized that the Award Selecion committee and NMA and other have recognized my dedicated and risky services given to rescuing mountaineers, porters and Sherpa guides who misfortunately felt sick and accidents in the Himalaya during 12 years of my professional life. This award and honoration has brought to me both encouragement and more responsibility in the mountain rescue operations.”
Another attraction of the program was Dr. Kanzaki’s presence in the program, the general secretary of Japan Mountaineering Association.
In addition to distribution of “Kumar Khadga Bikram Bravery Award–2009″, nma also gave away Dr.Harka Mountain Award to jointly Mr. PratikDhakal and Mrs. Natasha Shrestha for their significant role in the develomentt and upliftment of mountain tourism. Besides, training certificates were also gien to the participants of Basic Mountaineering Trainning-2010″.
Earlier, Mr. Sherpa was also honored by Swiss and Australian Embassies in Nepal for his skillful and dedicated service in the mountain rescue operations in Nepal.
The program was concluded by the president’s congratulation and thanking speech to the award recipients and participants of the programs.
